Li Ronghao is a Chinese singer-songwriter and producer, he wrote this song in 2013. Li Bai is one of the greatest famous Chinese poets in history, born in 701. He could be seen as Shakespeare in China, also known as a big drinker. The descried of Li is “genius, romantic and unruly”. The meaning of the name of the song is black humor, and irony. Nowadays, more and more people addicted to social media, following celebrities and desire to know their private life. At the same time, those vain people spend lots of time to dress up and pretend they are smart and cool people. This song is written to satirize this phenomenon.
The first paragraph “大部分人都要我學習去看 世俗的眼光” (Most of the people require me to learn what the mundane viewpoints are) direct reflect the personality of Li Bai. The singer is such a romantic and unruly person just like Li. So the people around him require him to do so. And he did. He learned it overnight and watched a foreign movie just like the general public. Although he didn’t understand anything about the movie, it doesn’t matter. He followed the people, did the same thing as they, that’s enough. Comprehend or not, is not the point. The last sentence ”你看我多乖多聰明多麼聽話 多奸詐” (See, How I am a good, smart, amenable and guile person.) He was good, smart and amenable. He learned the mundane viewpoints and did it very well. However, the singer also descried himself” guile”. He is not kind of the person (ordinary and blindly follow the trendy.) but he pretended he was.
The second paragraph started on this sentence “喝了幾大碗米酒再離開 是為了模仿” (Drinking several bowls of rice wine before I left in order to imitate Li Bai) is the same as the first one, emphasized the personality of Li. The secondary sentence “一出門不小心吐的那幅是誰的書畫” (Who is the artist of the painting which I vomited up while I left?) is an irony. People don’t really know what art is. But in order to be a noble and upper-class people, they brought a painting. (In a general Chinese family, usually, we don’t decorate our home with paintings. Only the rich one will buy some artwork to do that. Hence, if someone’s home decorates with some artworks, they will be known as a rich or vain guy.) However, he not only didn’t cherish it but also vomited up. It is really ironic. And he gave his suggestion to the playboy who always called every girl sweetheart. It shows the singer is at a higher level than the playboy, and he already saw through his trick. The singer is on the top, overseeing the mundane people and felt everything is so ridiculous.
The main paragraph repeats “要是能重來，我要選李白”(If I can choose my life again, I would like to be Li Bai) reflect the name of this song. The singer just likes Li, different from the mediocre people, outstanding and conspicuous. Nevertheless, he was still not enough talented and the people around him required he to be normal.
So the singer wish he could be Li, not so much people look at his privacy life. What’s more, he could write some pomes to flirt with sweet girls and be adored by people instead of asking him to be amenable. The singer is such an uninhibited person, through this song to appear his feeling and the view to the world.
Sometimes I have the same feeling as Li Ronghao. Everyone requires me to be a good girl. Most of the time, I did. But sometimes I’m tired of “be good”. I wanna do something different. No matter it is weird or strange. I do like to be ME. Always some people don’t agree with me and judge me with their own color glasses. My hobby is unpopular in the young group, like visit a museum, read a book, write a blog post, do some yoga and learn something new(oh, my skateboarding) instead of shopping or hanging out with friends or watching Netflix. However, THIS IS ME. Always someone asks me don’t do those things, and go to a night club or drink all night. Although I like the night club and drink, I don’t want to spend my whole weekend in that place. There is not thing benefit but wastes my life. So I wish I could have the courage like Li, refuse the invitation that I do not really want to join. Free from the pressure of “friends”. To be real ME.
